My top three favorite films are:
Flipped: (2010)
The genre of this film is a romantic comedy. It is about a girl named Juliana and a boy named Bryce, they are in eight grade. They met in second grade and Juli instantly falls in love with her neighbor, Bryce. But Bryce didn't feel the spark like she did. He would avoid her at every chance he could get. But after six years, Juli starts giving up on him and focuses on other things. When Bryce's grandfather helps Juli out with her garden after Bryce made fun of it. He then realizes that he actually likes Juli the more he got to know her. I really liked that this movie showed both point of views on Juli and Bryce.
The opening scene is 3 minutes long.
The opening scene starts off when Bryce moves in across the street from Juli. She immediately draws a connection to him, but he doesn't, which tends to go on until middle school. It connects to the overall plot of the film by trying to convince Bryce after six years, of knowing that it is true love.
The purpose of the this film opening used a prologue montage with a voice over. It showed the backstory of how they met leading up to current.
In the opening scene, there were a lot of close up shots, medium long shots, long shots, The setting was in the 1950's, there were chalkboards in the classrooms, boxes, etc. The opening scene had a voiceover of Bryce sharing how he met Juli. There was subtle music in the background as the voiceover narrated over. From the opening scene we can tell that Juli and Bryce are going to be the main characters of the film. There were no stereotypes obvious in the opening scene.
When we first met:
The opening scene is about 8 minutes long.
The opening scene starts off when Avery is talking about how she met someone special on Halloween. Then shows a flashback of that same night on Halloween. Leading up until the engagement party.
The purpose of this film is a prologue scene without a voiceover. It showed a flashback of how Avery and Noah met.
In the opening scene, there were a lot of close ups, medium shots, long shots, and the camera tilted when Noah was playing the piano. The setting was at a Halloween party in 2014, there was music, Halloween costumes, games, and dancing. The editing was a smooth cut through the scene. There was background music from the party, but you can't hear it over Noah and Avery talking. From the opening scene, we can tell that Noah and Avery are going to be the main characters. There were no obvious stereotypes in the opening scene.
Skater Girl:
The movie Skater Girl is a drama film. It is about a young Indian girl wanting to pursue a passion for skateboarding but she then faces the cultural societies tradition. Which bring a lot of ups and downs working up to her dream.
The opening scene is about 4 minutes long.
The opening scene starts off with Prema pulling her homemade skateboard with her brother, dropping him off to school. She longed to go to school as well, but unfortunately she had to go home and do chores and go to the market to sell goods.
The purpose of the film opening is an inciting incident. It shows how her life is, with lack of opportunity, having to give up her childhood to become a financial contributor to the household.
In the opening scene there were, high angle and low angle shots, close ups, medium, long shots, and the camera gliding with their movement. There was a lot of visual scenery showing the rural area of passageway to school. The editing skipped showing back and forth of her doing her daily chores and then picking her brother up from school. There was just laughter in the beginning, and dialogue between the characters. From the opening scene, we can tell that the girl (Prema), is going to be the main character. The stereotype in this is that poor Indian girls stay home and work. While their younger siblings get to go to school.
