Stage 4 of Final Project

This is the fourth step of completing my portfolio.

This will mostly consist of my filming process.

During the filming process, I was the filmier because my group members were the actors. I was able to film from my phone. As a group, we decided to use our phones to film. This made it much easier to set up and made it accessible at all times, instead of using the regular cannon camera. It was more convenient for us, as we are also filming outside in school. Not to mention, it is easier to film from your phone instead of a camera which might require me to watch tutorials to learn how to work the camera. This was the preferable choice.

When using production tech, I learned that lighting and camera angles matter. For instance, one of the problems that we ran into was, when I was trying to film an over-the-shoulder shot of a conversation through the phone. As I was filming my group member's phone turned dark as I was filming. As a group, we had to stop and find a solution. We changed our camera angle, and it worked!

Here is what it looked like. (This is not our picture!)

Another issue we had was trying to make the "crime scene" look realistic. By adding some more props and a change in the camera movement, it all came together perfectly.

We did not consult any sources to learn how to use our equipment. Because we recorded from our phones, it was easy to just hit record and start. This made the process much smoother.

When recording certain shots, we got inspiration from our convention glossary. As well as certain shots from movies. For instance, the over-the-shoulder shot of the text came from a movie called "Lost Girls". As a viewer, I was able to see what she was typing and get a little more insight into what was going on. For most of our shots, we took some inspiration from each other. This is because we are different people and many things will differ. Especially what we watch, I typically watch romance movies and movies that just give a positive message on life. This, in fact, lies the big question, So why am I making a mystery film?

Well although I don't watch mysteries that much, I wanted my final project to be exciting. Something out of my comfort zone, I had so many ideas for a mystery opening, that I couldn't wait to share. And not to mention, my group members watch mysteries. So this was pretty balanced. We did watch various types of opening scenes in mysteries before we concluded on our idea.

What about my production process? Want to see some of the behind-the-scenes?

That blog is now up! Have a look.

Stage 1 of my final project

This is the first step towards the completion of my portfolio.  To start off, the kind of movie that I'm interested in creating would be an mystery movie. The basic genre convention of my movie would be dark, suspenseful and murder. It's a genre of film that revolves around the solution of the problem or a crime. Other opening sequences of my genre include background knowledge, showing the setting, the characters and what happened all the way up until current. An opening sequence reveals meaning and tone without giving too much away by giving little pieces of what's to come throughout the story, which makes the viewer interested in the storyline. Depending on the genre, not too much action goes on in the opening scene. There might be some action, showing what happened before, leading up until the start of the movie. The settings or locations of other films in my genre are, but are not limited to, forests, homes, buildings, theme parks, etc.. Almost any place that you can go...

Mise-en-Scene

MISE-EN-SCENE  Although I was absent, when the majority of lesson was taught on Mise-en-Scene. I knew the meaning. Mise-en-scene means everything you see on screen and everything that is on the screen was there for a purpose. I understood that everything that was put on screen was there to make the viewer feel a certain way, it created a mood for the viewer. Mise-en-Scene also includes the props, lighting, costumes, design, and even make up, that play a huge role in a movies meaning as well as the audiences mood and reaction towards the film.  The project on "Photography Mini Project", really helped me understand the elements of Mise-en-Scene a little bit more.  This is the photo that I took, Using the elements of Mise-en-Scene: This project was very fun to do. I really enjoyed it. I was able to play around with the lighting of the photo, adjusting the temperature, and exposure. I was also able, to kind of capture like an illusion, that my subject was jumping into t...

Types of Movies/ Movie Genre

In Media Studies, On September 20,2021 we had been assigned to work on a project. Researching a film genre. I chose to work by myself and chose comedy. I really liked working by myself, I was able to work at my own pace and at my own convenience outside of school. Although, I was absent when, my classmates were presenting. I was able to do my own research and learn about the other different film genres. I learned that the genre "Sci-fi", incorporated science based themes into films. I also learned that "Romantic comedies tell a love story but just in a humorous way. For the project, I had to research what comedy was, the conventions, the social function, as well as the history and analysis of comedy and finally, I had to watch a movie that best represents the genre. I learned a lot from this project. The history of comedy is what fascinated me the most.  During this project, I kept changing around the movie I was going to watch and analyze. I also feel like I misunderst...
